Below are the legal lighting requirements in line with the 'The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989'.

Failing to ensure your trailer has the correct lighting COULD result in heavy fines and/or points on your license.

All trailers must be fitted with the following:

  • Two red sidelights
  • Two red stoplights
  • Two red reflective triangles
  • Two white front reflectors
  • One red fog light (if trailer is over 1.3 metres wide)
  • One number plate light
  • Amber indicators (designed to flash between 60-120 times per minute).
  • It is also recommended to have a form of making the driver aware that the trailer indicators are working correctly such as a buzzer or light.
